Leadership Development

OVERALL REFLECTION

For my competence in leadership development, I am submitting a leadership guide, as well as  a small group structure guide, which demonstrates how I was able to observe church leadership in a church plant context, as well as participate in and facilitate many different small groups with varying structures. I helped facilitate discussions, and give presentations to help church plant leaders grow in harmony and unity. I had led small groups before, primarily going through the Bible, but teaching leaders has helped me understand the importance of varying teaching methods and structures. Being a leader in a church plant has also kept me on my toes, and taught me the valuable lesson of being adaptable to new and diverse situations.

Learning Reflection

As I developed and demonstrated Christian leadership, I learned that I often have difficulties being a self starter. Through leading and facilitating in this church plant, I found that the triggering factor which causes me to stay in the background, is my shame. Because the church plant team needed help in various ways, and due to the nature of church plants, leaders are required to wear many hats, I was able to see that I do have things to contribute, and I am a worthwhile worker. This has been a huge help in not just church ministry, but in my home life as well, and though the shame still lingers, I know that God considers me worthy of His calling.

Lifelong Development Reflection

As a result of the experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop in Christian leadership by taking inventory of my own emotional state and helping other leaders identify things that may be hindering them internally. I will trust in my other leaders so that I am able, to be honest with them, and myself about how things are going, as well as allow space so that others leaders can share how they are doing. Next time I will get involved in more appropriate opportunities, not letting my shame hold me back so that I can test myself more.
